He replies stating, "you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your being, and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: You must love your neighbor as you love yourself."

Chris was born and raised in Ohio and has a background in journalism and marketing.  She and her husband, Ray, and daughter, Grace, enjoy hiking, playing tennis, and exploring the rich history of Virginia.  Chris is excited to be a part of the St. Andrew's UMC family and looks forward to getting to know our members!  Her favorite Scripture is Philippians 4:6-8:  "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything, by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."


Director of Music: Jean Edwards

Jean has been involved in church music since she was a child.  Brookland United Methodist Church, now located on Staples Mill Road, had its beginnings by meeting in her living room.  They had a baby grand piano, and she could play a few hymns for people to sing and they had enough room for the faithful few who gathered to start that wonderful church.  When the church was built, She continued playing the piano and organ until entering Mary Washington College to study music.

She was Music Director at Providence United Methodist Church for 11 years before joining the staff of Saint Andrew's, where she has served for 38 years.

Along the way she married her high school sweetheart, W. J., and they have two wonderful daughters, Debbie and Sherry, and four fantastic grandchildren.

She has many hobbies and interests.  She has taught and continues to teach literally hundreds of children and adults to play the piano.  She loves to quilt and spends many hours working on crafts for the church bazaar.

She loves her God, people, her family, and her church and church family, and music.  She continues to be thankful that she has been blessed to serve here at Saint Andrew's.

Her favorite scripture verse is Psalm 98.4  "Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise."


Children's Director: James Dettmer

James Dettmer is originally from Portsmouth, Virginia, and graduated from William and Mary with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Elementary Education in 2007.   He has taught children of all ages, from Pre-K through fifth grade, and has also worked with summer camps and church youth activities, including Vacation Bible School.  His past teaching experience includes working with youth groups in Portsmouth, Rainbow Station at Three Chopt, and Chesterfield County Schools.   He and his wife Alicia have two wonderful children.  In his spare time, James loves spending time with his family, as well as drawing and cooking.


His favorite scripture verse is1 John 4:16 – “And so we know and rely on the love God has for us.  God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.”


Youth Director: Shannon Honour Boyd

Shannon has been attending St. Andrew’s since the age of three, and is grateful for the opportunity to give back to the church that has given her so much.  She is thrilled to serve as director of the program that tremendously impacted her life as a teenager, and loves to witness our youth grow in their faith and become future leaders.  Shannon attended Meredith College in Raleigh, North Carolina, and graduated in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Interior Design and a minor in Studio Art.  She married her high school sweetheart, Robbie, in 2010, and they were blessed with a son in 2013.  Shannon enjoys home improvement projects, spending time with her wonderful family, reading, and singing in the St. Andrew’s Choir. 

Her favorite scripture verse is 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 - "Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus".
